Jay Ford

Originally from Lewisburg and now based in Charleston, Jay Ford has built an impressive legal career focused on commercial and business litigation, products liability, and healthcare litigation. His leadership and service have earned him numerous honors, including the 2026 American Bar Association “On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyers” award and the 2024 West Virginia State Bar Young Lawyer of the Year recognition.

Jay’s commitment to Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) stems from a lifelong appreciation for the role lawyers can play in strengthening their communities.

“Growing up the son of a small-town lawyer, I saw firsthand the positive impact that lawyers can have on members of their community,” Jay says. “All too often, however, the folks who need help the most are without the means to secure legal representation.”

A dedicated LAWV supporter, Jay has served multiple times as captain of Spilman Thomas & Battle’s Just One Campaign, encouraging colleagues to support LAWV through charitable giving. He has also been a strong advocate for LAWV’s pro bono efforts, helping connect more attorneys with opportunities to serve vulnerable West Virginians.

“The unfortunate reality is that there is no shortage of work for LAWV to do, which provides ample opportunity to get involved, whether it is taking on a pro bono case or helping with fundraising.”

Through adoptions, wills clinics, and his Lawyer in the School pro bono work, Jay has seen firsthand the impact of LAWV. What stays with him most is the gratitude expressed by clients whose lives have been changed through access to legal help.

“The positive effect it can have on an individual or family, and their resulting gratitude, is incredibly rewarding,” he says.

“Do yourself and your community a favor by supporting LAWV’s mission. I assure you that you won’t regret it.”

A gift to LAWV does more than fund legal services. It changes lives, strengthens communities, and creates the kind of meaningful impact that keeps supporters like Jay engaged year after year. Join him in making a difference.
