Assistance for Veterans
At Legal Aid of WV, we prioritize legal issues that affect veterans and have partnerships in place to help better serve this population. We have two dedicated veterans projects, where attorneys can help veterans with special issues like:
- Veterans Benefits
- Discharge upgrades
Our veterans’ attorneys, along with our other attorneys at Legal Aid of WV statewide can also help with many issues that affect veterans’ stability:
- Domestic violence protection
- Barriers to employment
- Eviction, bad housing conditions and other housing problems
- Expungement of a past criminal record
- Driver’s license reinstatement
- Reducing or increasing child support
- Divorce or child custody
- SNAP (food stamps), social security disability and other public benefits
(This is not a comprehensive list. If you have another issue that threatens your safety, stability, income, etc., please apply for services.)
Our Veterans Service Programs
Legal Aid of WV offers services to veterans in every West Virginia county through the Supportive Service for Veteran Families program, specifically dedicated to fighting homelessness for U.S. Veterans.
We also offer services in partnership with the Huntington VA hospital through the Legal Services to Veterans grant. This offers the unique opportunity to serve West Virginia’s veterans with legal issues related to housing or income instability with fewer income eligibility requirements.
The goal for our advocates and attorneys is to ensure veterans are provided with legal guidance and possible representation where needed.
If you have questions about veterans services or would like to know more about eligibility for our programs, please apply for help by calling 866-255-4370, or contact our Clarksburg SSVF team at 304-623-6649, ext. 2334.
