JustOne Campaign Relaunch a Success!

Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) recently completed a streamlined version of the JustOne Campaign, inviting attorneys across the state to contribute JustOne gift equal to JustOne billable hour.

LAWV staff visited firms in downtown Charleston, with some offices joining remotely, to share client stories and updates on our statewide impact. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with attorneys offering feedback such as:

• “Great cause and great attorneys who take on the hard assignments.”
• “Legal Aid provides critical services!”
• “Legal Aid is a fantastic service for our state and its people!”

These conversations also opened the door to promote volunteer opportunities. LAWV makes it easy to get involved, offering attorneys opportunities to practice new areas of law for a brief time period or longer commitment, and following our presentations several attorneys signed up to provide pro bono legal services.

To celebrate campaign participation, LAWV held a wrap-up event at Short Story Brewing, with Lefty’s Place pizza and appetizers, and presented awards to firms in three tiers.

• Small Firm: Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP – 76%
• Medium Firm: Lewis Gianola PLLC – 90% (now at 95% and aiming for 100%!)
• Large Firm: Bowles Rice LLP – 55%

Atticus Finch “Courts Are the Great Levelers” Award for most overall dollars raised

• Small Firm: Frost Brown Todd LLP
• Medium Firm: Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso PLLC
• Large Firm: Jackson Kelly PLLC

Additionally, a special recognition “No One Can Stop Them” Award was presented to Lewis Gianola PLLC for being the first to commit to the campaign this year.

Thanks to this friendly competition and the generosity of West Virginia’s legal community, the campaign raised $100,000 from approximately 180 attorneys in just over two weeks.

We’re thrilled with this momentum and already looking ahead to 2026. Next year, we plan to expand outreach across the state and introduce the option to take on JustOne pro bono case, amplifying the campaign’s impact even further.
