Logan Domestic Violence Attorney

As a Victim Advocate Attorney in the Logan office of LAWV, you will primarily represent victims of domestic violence, in matters related to achieving safety and meeting other basic needs – helping them through some critical steps on a bridge to a less oppressive and safer future.  You will have direct responsibility for interacting with clients, and representing them in court, with support from and collaboration with other attorneys and community partners.  

The Logan office of LAWV serves Logan and Mingo Counties in West Virginia, which are in the heart of West Virginia’s mountainous southern coal fields. This region has been the site of many significant historic events, including the Hatfield-McCoy feud, the UMWA Battle of Blair Mountain and the Buffalo Creek Disaster, and the region’s history gives shape and context to the current challenges faced by its low-income residents. The small-town of Logan, which is the county seat of Logan County, is a short drive from the state capital city of Charleston, and from the Ohio River city of Huntington, WV, which sits on the border of Kentucky and Ohio. Recreational opportunities in the Logan vicinity include great hiking, biking, kayaking, and off-road vehicle riding, and Logan is within 100 miles of some of the best white water in the world. Learn more.

Logan Attorney

As a staff attorney in the Logan office of LAWV, you will represent clients facing many of the variety of legal problems which tend to impact low-income people. You will become experienced in several areas of the law, including public and private tenant rights and unemployment, as well as a variety of other subject areas, and this position will regularly bring on new challenges and opportunities for creative problem solving. You will have direct responsibility for interacting with clients, and representing them in court and in administrative forums, with support from and collaboration with other attorneys and community partners.

Sharpe Hospital. Must have 4 year degree or significant experience working with clients with mental or behavioral health challenges in an advocacy capacity. Huntington Human Trafficking Attorney

Are you interested in using your legal skills to help address social inequality and to ensure that low-income families maintain stability? Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a skilled motivated attorney to help us change the lives of vulnerable clients in our Huntington office. Legal Aid is looking for an attorney to assist human trafficking and domestic violence victims in Cabell, Mason, and Wayne counties and to serve as a program resource on legal issues affecting trafficking victims. The Human Trafficking Attorney will assist and represent human trafficking and domestic violence victims with family court and administrative remedies. Legal services could include protective orders, name changes, housing assistance petition and appeals, assisting with getting identification documents, and helping the victim in giving testimony and working with authorities. Non-legal services could include assisting with benefit registration and being a referral source for the victim to other community resources. Strong relationships with community partners are needed, as most referrals come from other organizations within the community. The Attorney will serve on the WV Human Trafficking Taskforce, and other boards, and will provide community education in various settings.

Clarksburg Paralegal 

Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a skilled motivated paralegal to join our team in our Clarksburg Office. LAWV offers a great family friendly work environment and excellent benefit package which includes medical, dental and life insurance and paid leave. 

As the TANF Paralegal in the Clarksburg  office of LAWV, you will primarily represent individuals to assist them in obtaining Social Security disability benefits. This is a case handling position. You will have direct responsibility for interacting with clients, and representing them at administrative hearings. You may also advocate for clients in Social Security overpayment matters, in driver’s license cases, in education cases and in other areas of law. In addition to your case handling responsibilities, you will provide project support to the TANF attorney, complete new client intakes and complete outreach to community partners.  

The Clarksburg office of LAWV serves Harrison, Doddridge, Taylor, Lewis and Gilmer counties in West Virginia. Clarksburg is centrally located within 2 hours of both Pittsburgh, PA and Charleston, WV. We are 45 minutes south of Morgantown, WV, home of West Virginia University and Mountaineer sports. We are within 90 minutes of some of the most beautiful parts of West Virginia, including Dolly Sods wilderness area, Seneca Rocks, and Blackwater Falls.

Beckley/Princeton Attorney 

Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a skilled motivated attorney to join our Lawyer in the School Team serving Southern West Virginia in either our Beckley or Princeton Office.  This is a grant funded position which ends on June 30, 2022. LAWV offers a great family friendly work environment and excellent benefit package which includes medical, dental and life insurance and paid leave. 

As an attorney for the expanded Lawyer in the School project, you will provide outreach at schools in southern West Virginia, while hosting on-site legal clinics for school families. Duties will include conducting intakes to establish eligibility and acceptance of cases for advice or representation. When appropriate, you will represent clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies, with support from and collaboration with other attorneys and community partners. Additionally, you will assist in project evaluation and reporting. 

The coalfields of southern West Virginia have historically been home to the majority of the state’s miners and their families. This once-booming region literally fueled the nation. However, the vast decline in the coal industry has left much of this area economically depressed and families in need. This position is chance to work on the front lines in the battle against poverty and family instability, while serving to rebuild communities.

Charleston Legal Assistant

As a Legal Assistant in the Charleston office, you will provide support to the office by working directly with our staff attorneys and paralegals, performing general reception duties, drafting pleadings, motions, and other correspondence, and collaborating with other staff and community partners to better serve our clients. 

The Charleston office serves Kanawha, Putnam, Lincoln, Boone, Braxton, Clay, and Webster counties, and is the largest office in our firm. This position offers a chance to work with a diverse group of advocates and clients on a variety of social justice and poverty issues.
