Housing Attorney – Southern Region
Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a motivated attorney to join our Legal Help for Renter’s Project. There is flexibility as to office location, with the position serving the Southern WV region. As the Legal Help for Renter’s Project Attorney, you will be a member of the Legal Help for Renter’s Project, LAWV’s partnership with the WV Housing Development Fund. The goal of this initiative is to provide legal assistance to eligible tenants with their holistic legal needs. This position will provide legal assistance involving barriers to tenants including, eviction defense, habitability, safety at home, and economic stability. This unit will work together to create novel approaches to address tenant issues across West Virginia. The unit will be guided by a Project Supervisor and work in concert with paralegals serving the statewide project. This is a defined term position which ends on September 30, 2025.

Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman

Ombudsmen work statewide to ensure that the rights of residents in West Virginia’s long-term care facilities are protected. Operating under Legal Aid of WV, the West Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsmen are non-attorneys who advocate for residents by:
- Identifying, investigating, and resolving complaints made by, or on behalf, of long-term care residents.
- Making routine unannounced visits to long-term care facilities to monitor the general care and condition and care of residents.
- Representing the interests of residents to government agencies, and working collaboratively to find administrative, legal, and other remedies.
All services offered by the Ombudsman Program are free, confidential, and open to any long-term care resident, their family, or other concerned caretakers and friends.
This position covers the following counties: Boone, Logan, Mingo, McDowell, Wyoming, and Raleigh. These counties include attractions such as Tamarack, Twin Falls State Park, Chief Logan State Park, and the Madison Civic Center.
